Customs explains New Recruitment, targets 3,096 Candidates in the SUPPLEMENTARY Recruitment


The Nigeria Customs Service  (NCS) has clarified that the ongoing recruitment of Officers into the Agency is not a "General Recruitment", adding that about 3,096 Candidates are to be engaged in the Service across the 774 LGAs of the Federation.


The Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, Leke Abejide, disclosing this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, stated that the SUPPLEMENTARY Recruitment is to enable ELIGIBLE Nigerians fill up some existing vacancies in the Nigerian Customs Service


According to Mr Abejide, each local government area is entitled to four (4) candidates in the SUPPLEMENTARY Recruitment in order to ensure fairness and equality across the local government areas of the Federation.

Mr Abejide who disclosed that Nigerians had been calling him on the exercise, noted that the clarification became important as he recieved lots of threats from Nigerians, which includes taking the NCS to Court, during the last Recruitment Exercise conducted by the Agency.


He decried the level of pressure being mounted on members of the House to lobby for slots on their behalf, stressing that the amount of pressure necessitated the press briefing to correct some erroneous insinuations.


Mr Abejide urged Nigerians, especially those interested in applying for Nigeria Customs Service jobs, to find out the cadres that exist in their LGAs.


He further disclosed that the House was working on a bill to reform the Nigeria Customs Service, adding that it would repeal and re-enact the law to enable the NCS recruit massively.


According to him, once the bill is ready and if it becomes law, many of our youth will be recruited into the Agency.


Mr Abejide explained that the NCS ought to have 30,000 personnel but that currently, it has about 15,000 personnel, noting that the number was grossly inadequate.
